Winter Fly Fishing: Throwing Streamers in NJ
Winter Streamer Fishing in NJ
The water temperature was a brisk 38 degrees this past Sunday, and the air was colder still. Ice in the guides, frozen reels, biting wind – nothing stopped Chris and I from spending a few hours doing some winter streamer fishing in NJ before the predicted “snowpocolypse.”
After several outings to smaller creeks this winter, it was a lot of fun to fish for trout with a little more meat on their bones. Last week I fished Valley Creek with size 24 and 26 dry flies, on Sunday I tied on Wish4fish’s 6” streamer, the TYSO. I was ready for some serious winter streamer fishing in NJ.
The stream we fished is private section of a tributary to the Raritan River. There are some really nice holdovers here and most of the fish are stocked. Despite nearly freezing solid, we had a great time hauling in a few hogs.
Stay warm and stay safe through the storm tomorrow.
